PROMPT in Aotearoa New Zealand
The PROMPT course has become firmly established in New Zealand since an initial visit from the UK PROMPT faculty in 2006. The course has been delivered in maternity units across the country, initially with potential faculty attending courses in Auckland and Christchurch and more recently "Train the Trainers" (T3) courses. Over 200 potential PROMPT faculty from more than 20 secondary and tertiary units have attended one of our five T3 courses run so far.
Most recently, we have moved the T3 course online so individual new faculty members can upskill through a half day online course, taking them through the principles of setting up a course, running a scenario and debriefing attendees safely and constructively.
The high rate of staff turnover in most New Zealand maternity units means that local PROMPT training may not always be run regularly. If PROMPT is not currently run in your unit do contact us so we can help establish or re-establish training in your department.
We have also run annual PROMPT update days, in Auckland or Christchurch enabling faculty from around the country to meet up, share their experiences and look at how to develop their own local courses further.
PROMPT style training has also been adapted for the Pacific supported by the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health. More information on PEMNeT (Pacific Emergency and Neonatal Training) courses in the Pacific can be found on their website.
